With over a decade of experience trading, investing, and managing risk in environmental markets, Ariel is passionate about leveraging market-based mechanisms to address the climate crisis.
He joined Hartree in 2015 to set up and lead the Environmental Products business. Prior to this, he was Managing Partner at Mercuria and Global Head of Emissions Trading for Citigroup in London.
David has over 20 years of experience in energy and environmental markets with Linklaters, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs and has been involved in carbon markets from their early stages. David leads the Vertree Client Solutions team which contains the Sales, Structuring, Advisory and Financing functions within the carbon team.
George spent 10 years growing a start-up private equity fund to $1.3bn of assets under management, latterly as Director & Head of ESG, building an investment track record in tech-led buyouts & growth equity. He was appointed Chairman of the Responsible Investment Advisory Group at the British Venture Capital Association and helped launch Initiative Climate International in the UK. Following a year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, George joined our team in 2021. He is responsible for broadening our asset management capabilities and leads seed to growth equity investments in climate-tech, focused on physical decarbonisation technologies, carbon markets & next generation commodities.
David trained as an engineer at Imperial College before a 15-year trading career across the global equities markets. He now leads Vertree’s technological carbon removal business, investing in decarbonisation across energy, industry, and consumer products. The business includes carbon capture processes, carbon dioxide reuse and sequestration, and risk management of physical decarbonisation. David holds an MBA from London Business School.
Dominique has nearly 15 years of experience in the energy sector, specialising in risk management strategies. She joined Hartree Partners in 2010, where she served on the European Marketing & Flow Trading desk. During her tenure at Hartree, she offered risk management services to a variety of energy participants, with a focus on diverse commodity markets. In 2020, Dominique joined Vertree. Leading our Marketing and Business Development team, she has been instrumental in assisting clients in understanding their emissions exposure and strategically utilising the voluntary carbon market. Dominique is not just committed to her clients' success but also passionate about making a lasting positive impact on the environment, communities, and biodiversity. Her work at Vertree is a testament to her dedication to environmental sustainability.
Camille Barbancon de Carvalho
Camille joined Hartree in 2014 on the EMEA Marketing & Flow Trading desk, assisting corporate clients in their risk management and structuring needs across all energy markets. She joined Vertree in 2021 on the Sales Desk covering both the compliance and voluntary carbon markets. She is committed to assisting companies participate in environmental markets as part of their sustainability journey, while ensuring the lasting positive impact of Vertree’s portfolio. Prior to Hartree, she worked at Societe Generale and Lloyds Bank on their FX and Energy desk after completing a Master’s degree at a leading business school in France.
Muireann has over 12 years of experience in corporate strategy and sustainability. She works predominantly with companies in the energy and industrial sectors on their approaches to climate change, with a focus on helping clients and investors navigate and scale their participation in environmental markets. Muireann has led programmes through all stages of the decarbonisation journey – from risk and materiality to footprinting, emissions reductions & target setting, carbon portfolio development, and disclosure. She also sits on Hartree’s ESG Committee. Previous employers include Deloitte, South Pole, and the World Economic Forum. She holds a BA from Johns Hopkins University and MSc in Environmental Economics from LSE.
Sam began working in environmental markets the day after the conclusion of historic proceedings at COP26 in Glasgow. Since then, he has worked to help predominantly energy and industrial companies understand the role carbon projects can play in optimising their net zero journey. Sam is driven to assist companies in developing an ambitious approach to decarbonisation, at the intersection where market dynamics, policy, and corporate strategy collide. He holds a BA from the University of Cambridge.
Chris has over 20 years of experience in commodities and financial markets. A qualified lawyer, Chris started his career with Linklaters before leading the Commodities legal team and Metals Structuring team at Deutsche Bank and the Commodities Structuring team at ICBC Standard Bank. Chris joined Hartree's Environmental Products business in February 2022. He is committed to using his knowledge and expertise to further accelerate, expand and strengthen efforts to address climate change.
Ben has over 20 years’ experience in Investment Banking and Private Equity in the Energy and Commodities sector. Prior to joining Vertree in 2022, Ben was global lead for New Energy Technologies and Oil & Gas corporate finance coverage at ING Bank. Ben has also served as Head of Oil & Gas at Investec Bank and his early career was spent at Macquarie Capital during which time he was awarded Mergermarket “Young Dealmaker of the Year”. He is also a Founder of a Multi-Academy Trust that founded and oversees two Ofsted “Outstanding” schools. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Banking & International Finance from Bayes Business School.
Cheryl has over 25 years of experience in energy and environmental markets specialising in the Asia-Pacific region. She traded electricity for a mixed portfolio of generation in Australia and established the environmental products trading business at Westpac. She subsequently went into climate consulting with a focus on decarbonisation strategies and carbon markets.
Vidur has over a decade of experience in trading, structuring, and origination in the environmental and energy markets across Asia and Europe. He has built a track record in designing and managing both equity and complex debt securitisation deals to foster growth in partner entities and generate trading value. Vidur is passionate about the nexus between carbon markets, climate finance and decarbonisation to tackle the climate crisis. He joined Vertree in 2022 to lead the Asia-Pacific Environmental Trading business. Previously Vidur has held senior trading and origination roles for Shell and he led the environmental trade book for Southeast Asia. Prior roles include European biofuels trading and gas & power origination. He has a Master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Birmingham.
Rodrigo leads the origination activities for Vertree. His experience in environmental markets and carbon finance spans over 18 years and five continents and encompasses sectors such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management and forestry. He has previously worked at BP, IADB and ecosecurities. He has experience coordinating international cooperation for the dissemination of low carbon agriculture technologies, in particular, among smallholders in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest Regions in Brazil.
Nina has spent over 18 years focused on the management of global project portfolios, the creation of innovative climate finance instruments and the in-depth analysis of climate energy and industrial policy. Working across industry and with governments, she has conducted project due diligence, developed and implemented multi-stakeholder projects in sustainable energy, climate and circular economy, as well as been responsible for bringing carbon credits to issuance in the compliance and voluntary carbon markets. Her previous roles have been at the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Noble Carbon Credits, ClearBlue Markets and Agora Energiewende, among others.
An original member of the Vertree team, Alexandra’s expertise is in the voluntary carbon market and forestry projects in particular. She is responsible for Vertree’s Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) for all portfolio projects, ensuring compliance with existing standards and procedures. Prior to this, she was an Energy Consultant at Hartree working on engagements related to the energy transition. She holds a Master’s degree in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Kent, Canterbury.
Pedro has been managing and implementing forest-based projects and sustainable rural production activities in tropical forest countries for around 14 years. This has included the development of pioneering agroforestry and restoration models with small landholders in the Brazilian Amazon and integrating livestock to forestry systems (ILPF). He has a Master’s degree in Applied Ecology from the Luiz de Queiroz School of Agriculture (ESALQ/USP).
Mingyi has 6 years of experience in carbon trading and prior to that G10 rates. She is passionate about combining the knowledge of energy complex, macro outlook and climate policy to form trading strategies as well as structuring tailored hedging strategies to service our customers needs. Prior to Hartree Mingyi ran the EMEA carbon trading business at Mercuria.
One of our experienced carbon traders, Eric has been working with us for more than 3 years. His focus is across international carbon markets and encompasses trading, market analytics and risk management. He was inspired to pursue a career in carbon and energy by his passion for complex systems modelling and politics.
Henry Lorenc joined Hartree Partners in 2022, bringing OTC commodity derivatives experience and holding a degree in Politics from the University of Brighton, where his thesis centered on ‘Green Capitalism’. At Vertree, Henry has responsibilities in Voluntary Carbon Market analytics, trading and risk management.
Qais joined Vertree in 2023 and provides analytics, trading and risk management for the EU and UK ETS. Prior to that he worked on the Carbon Desk at Mercuria Energy focusing on EU and UK compliance markets and renewable fuels. He holds a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, and Financial Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne. His thesis explored Trading Strategies in the EUA Options Market.

Lucy is a marketing and communications expert specialising in climate-related sustainability and the carbon market. She is particularly passionate about the role of communications to support the advancement of progress on climate, and has a Master’s degree in Environment and Sustainability from Birkbeck, University of London. Her areas of expertise include content writing, PR & media, digital marketing, brand, and design.
